View Full Version : Question on Blum hinges for full inset doors

I'm building a vanity and can't seem to figure out if I'm doing something wrong with the Blum hinges or I got the wrong part numbers.

When I bore the 35mm hole per the instructions (in a test piece) it results in a 1/4" gap between the face frame and door stile (again the test piece).

These pictures show what I'm talking about.

I can't bore the 35mm hole farther from door stile edge as it then interferes with the hinge when open (binds with the neck on the hinge). This tells me I've got the setback from the door edge correct for the 35mm hole.

The bracket that screws to the cabinet face frame has a slight ledge on it which won't allow for it to be attached anywhere but right on the edge of the face frame.

The bracket looks like this and is part# B175H5.

The hinge looks like this and I ordered part# 71B3750, my hinge looks identical but is stamped 71B355.

From Blum's website the 71B3550 looks like this (straight neck) so I believe I've got the correct hinge (cranked neck) even though it is stamped with a different part number.

I'm hoping to get some help here as I was wanting to get the doors hung and fitted this weekend. If no one knows what's going on I'll call my supplier on Monday.

Thanks for the help.

Seems like you ordered an INSET hinge (Blum 71B3750) to go with 9mm baseplate. If I read correctly....the hinge is a full cranked (not half cranked or straight) and it needs go with 0mm baseplate to be correctly inset. There's not an 0mm baseplate to go with this hinge so you would have to get the correct hinge to go with the 9mm baseplate and that would be Blum 71B3650..... which should have all the similar features as the hinge you received except that it's a half crank hinge.

You need a full-cranked hinge (71B3750) but it looks like you have a half-cranked hinge (71B3650). Your mounting plate has a 9mm "plate height". You can use the half-cranked hinge with a 0mm plate, but the 9mm plate requires the full-cranked hinge to do what you want.

I suggest you return the hinge for the correct one.

I'm currently doing the same. I got the 71B3650. I notice in my saved copy of the Blum catalog it says 71T3650. But regardless the sack they came in says71B3650. It is the half cranked and I used the 175H5030.21 mounting plate. Worked out fine except that mounting plate attachment doesn't seem very strong screwed to the face frame.

You need a half crank hinge with that mounting plate. Drill at 22mm I believe.

You need the 71B3650, as other have mentioned.

Wow, thanks for the quick responses. Now that I read the Blum tech sheet I see where I screwed up. I was debating building it with the inside panel being flush with the face frame but that would have meant building out the other side where the drawer slides were mounted. Should have done this as I agree with Michael that it doesn't seem real sturdy.

Just to confirm, I need to order this style of hinge which is the 71B3650.
