that color is way off from any sycamore that I've cut down or turned. I like it!

Like Shawn said... If you had this up and we were to guess what kind of wood, I would guess elm. Nice piece no matter what...

I wasn’t going to comment on the wood, but as soon as I saw the inside grain I knew you had Elm rather than Sycamore.

Still nice job and I’m sure your Mother will like it, being Elm or Sycamore

I'll have to change my title to ELM SALAD BOWL! I obviously have to brush up on my wood specie identification. Or maybe I'll just go with titles like WOOD SALAD BOWL or TREE WOOD SALAD BOWL or perhaps WOOD FROM THE FOREST SALAD BOWL! In any event, thank you for the nice comments and the correction.

well I wasn't going to second guess his wood ID, but I thought Elm also.

What finish did you use? I see a spray can of something next to the bowl. The bowl looks wet, so either 1) you just got done spraying it, or 2) you used spray lacquer or poly - neither of which are good choices for a salad bowl.

Nice bowl by the way!
