Myself and two other Windy City Woodturners sawed up a white oak log that had two big burls on it. The wood was like cutting iron. We spent 3 hours slabing out a 5' x 26" part of the trunk. We split the pieces three ways. I have started processing it, starting with the ones with least burl wood. This was a slab closer to the pith (under the burl) about 4" thick and 18" wide. I cored the smaller one from the bigger. Both have bee sealed and put in a paper trash bag. Biggest is about 14" across and 3 1/2" deep.

I'm assuming pic 3 and 4 are the same piece just shown inside and outside? If so, that could end up being a stunning piece when finished. How do you think your going to grab it once it dries?

There over an inch in the bott so just tur a 2" tenon.

I'm going dizzy trying to determine if pic #4 is the inside of or the bottom of the bowl? I was thinking it was the bottom turned upside down for the picture but I think your answer means it's the inside. Was wondering how to get a tenon around that crack.

Pic 4 is the bottom of the smaller bowl the black area is a small shallow inclusion where the tenon will be when it drys. Some of it can be seen on the inside center of the bigger one.
