Need Ideas

My boss has asked me to make a wooden background or frame or a combo of either to mount this metal cross to. Any suggestions on how to incorporate some wood into this project? I've very open to any ideas.

I like Randy's idea for the shape. If you want to keep it simpler, leave out the lights. (Awesome effect though!) Or you could make a backer the same shape as the cross just bigger by 1/2" or 3/4" (or more) all the way around and route an edge profile around it. I can't do a nice drawing like Randy for you though.
