Attached are a couple pictures of a wine cabinet I just finished for a friend. She found several pictures on the net of wine cabinets she liked and took a little from each to come up with this.
</O:p

It is made from Red Oak with a Quarter sawn red oak top. The finish is Water Lox except for the maze for the wine bottles. I used poly on it prior to glue up.

Just beautiful! I love the design. Nice touch on the drawer (for the bottle opener I presume?).

Is that the happy owner of the piece, standing next to the photographer in the mirror's reflection?

Very nice Bobby, I espically like the top with q. sawn red oak, nice touch. Question, did you get the wood locally or mail order, reason for the question is because I live in Wendell and work in Cary and I'm always looking for more sources of wood. Thanks.

Very, very nice. If I drank more wine that is something I would look into building for myself. To bad I have never seen a beer rack.

Very nice, I run a fine wine and cigar shop here in Tokyo, and I can tell you, that is one of the nicer units I've seen.

Needs a spot for Decanters!! ;)

Super work!!

Brian, I get all my hardwood at "The Hardwood Store of North Carolina" in Gibsonville. My sheet goods I get at the "Raleigh Hardwood Center" on Poole Rd. in Raleigh. Drop me a note, maybe we can get together for lunch or something.

Dave

Dave, Not sure I understand your question. The inlay on the top was done by routing a 1/8" wide x 1/4" deep groove in the top. I would stop just before I reached the corners and do the 90 degree corner with a small chisel. I then cut the Peruvian Walnut strips on the table saw. They were 3/16" wide x 3/8" high. I then used a block plane to put a taper on the strips. Put yellow glue in my grooves and then forced the strips into the grooves. Used pieces of wood on top of the strips for the clamps to grip while the glue dried. Once the glue dried I used a hand plane to plane them flush with the top. Sounds harder then it really is.

Does this answer your question?

Would love to make another one. Have few new ideas and changes that I would like to try. Just have to find someone that wants it.

Bobby,

Beautiful wine cabinet.

I'm wondering how you built the hangers for the wine glasses. My sister wants me to build something for her glasses and I'm pretty new at this. Could you take a close up of just that section? Or just explain, if possible?

Thanks! Rick

Rick,

I don't have any pictures of the holders I made for the wine glasses. However some very close to what I used are avaiable from Rockler, the part number is 22202. Mine were made from 1 1/8' thick material while the ones from Rockler are made from 3/4" material. I am going to attempt to attach a drawing of the rockler ones. Don't know if it will work.

Bobby, I also used the Rocker document when I milled stock for my glass storage...and I also used thicker material! ;)
