Seems I've forgotten that I'm registered here. I see some old friends from other places. I'd taken a break from turning recently, just not enough time to cram all the fun things in life into. So, I'll jump right in with a pic of my latest turning. Walnut (Thanks Mark!) hollow form, 8.5" diameter. (Hope this works  )

Travis, gorgeous piece and that finish is really killer!:) What routine do you normally use for something like that? I've had a heckuva' time with Walnut! Anyhow, glad to see get active at SMC...Now don't be a stranger, OK?:)

Thanks John. With Walnut, I like to sand up to 400 grit, then wet sand with a few coats of Watco Danish oil at 600 grit to fill the grain. Finish up with buffing on Beall wheels after the oil cures.

Ah-haaaa! Me thinks the wet sand part of that may be the "secret" ingrediant I've been missing on past pieces! Well, that and being able to produce such a beautiful form, in the first place! I'll need to try that on a Walnut bowl. (Not progressed enough to the hollow forms, yet!) Thanks for the tips, Travis!:) Again, beautiful piece!:)

Hey there, Trav! Good to see you back online!

But how come the Walnut I turned - from the same tree as this piece - doesn't look near this good? :p

I have a chunk like this ready to ship to Dick to give him a try at it.

Glad to see you back online. Looking forward to seeing lots more of your work.
