Did I hear this correctly?

"Fixing a hole in the ocean
Trying to make a dovetail joint"

John Lennon, you get down with your carpenter self!

Actually, it should make us cringe.

A hole in the ocean would be better fixed with some marine-grade epoxy or at the very most a dovetail INLAY.

The lyric might should have been

"Fitting the corners of the ocean.
Trying to make a dovetail joint
The last 50 were poorly done."

Well, I've always interpreted this as a list of honey-dos. The ocean-caulking is just one item on the list.

Seriously, what makes me smile is the *trying* part of the line. He (John) gets it. Making a dovetail joint is on par with trying to shovel back the ocean.

..You mean like a Dutchman ? (Perhaps a Flying Dutchman ?)

+1. I think you nailed it Phil. John would have made just that kind of comparison.

The Beatles effectively changed music, governments and the world, why not cabinetmaking?

Prophetic, this thread was...

When JL sings "Here's another clue for you all, the Walrus was Paul".

Do you think he meant Paul Sellers?

"Lady Madonna trying to make ends meet". Is this a reference to a poorly constructed scarf joint?
