I recieved a couple bowl blanks from a friend. We are not sure what type of wood this is. This is my first turning on my Jet 1442. There is not a finish on the wood. It has only been buffed. What kind of wood is this??

I can't identify it. However, this link may help.

It looks like cocobolo. Very nice turning!

It appears to me to be one of the rosewoods...likely cocobolo. If so, be sure you wear a good dust mask when you are working with it. You may or may not also find skin sensitivity with these species.
That all said, that's a beautiful piece! Nice job. It glows.

Thank you all! I agree with you Jim, it caused me to sneeze after I removed my dust protection and left the shop. Clothing went straight to the washer.

I agree. My first take was also Cocobolo. And that wood will take a nice polish with no finish applied.

Can't help with the id, but I love the richness of the color and finish.

Almost certainly cocobolo. If you have any negative reactions to it be careful. Beautiful piece and nicely finished....
