This 10" rip cut Tyzak saw with the dumb handle is now a 10" crosscut saw with a new sapele handle. I re-toothed it to 14 tpi cross cut.
It's a pretty nice saw to use. :)

Looks nice, did you alter the hang angle?

Jim,
I used another handle as a go-by and in this case, I didn't check the hang angle.

You probably see that thee LN handle was my inspiration. One thing I discovered is the hand grip is not a true arc. It comes to a hard point in the middle so that it touches the palm of your hand. That's what makes the LN handles so comfortable. It was a case of monkey see, monkey do.

Lowell. If your going to post a thread titled new handle on a saw ; it would be ideal if you could post a photo that clearly shows the shaping of the new handle.

In response to Stewie, here are details of the handle.

The handle is not an exact copy of a Lie Nielsen handle, but it is very much inspired by Lie Nielsen. I own three Lie Nielsen hand saws, so it should be no surprise that I am influenced by them.

Disston handles are not true arcs on the back either, though the high region is much more subtle than your example.

I've been misidentifying the saw. It is a Hindsdale.
