This vise is based on a design I saw by Bob Lang. I made a couple of changes. The main change is that Bob's version is clamped to the workbench. Mine is intended to be held in my front vise but can also be clamped to the workbench directly. I used screws so I could easily swap out the jaws. The center wheel is OK to hold the saw in place for positioning, but I think adding an F-clamp to each side will be needed to get even pressure for filing. I used cherry because that was what I had on hand at the time.

It's a really simple device.

Thanks for the photos. It looks useable. If you use it in your front vise, I guess you clamp the lower base or "foot" in the vise? And the overall length is such that it is at a comfortable height to work at while standing?

Yes. Make yours whatever height is comfortable for you. I've seen people use two boards clamped together in the vice and I'm sure it worked just as well :)

Very nice vise.

Took me a second to realize it was on a table and not on the floor.

Nothing real fancy, and I can even sit down on my shop stool.

Mid 19th Century one in classifieds, that works like a charm, for fifty bucks shipped. I cleared out my accumulation to make room for one big one. That's the last one left.

Nice vice Dan. I bought one, but nothing better than using something you've made yourself. Well done.
