Mailing bag even had a tear or two in it. All the way from Florida, no less

said SEARS on the side. Wonder IF I can take into Sear for a new one??

Well, this is what was under all that mess, A Millers Falls No.75
332010
as you can see by thetime stamps, didn't take all that long..

And, it does cut. That front knob seems to be the earlier Cocobolo knob...

Lot of red and black stripes to it.
With free shipping, this was just $9 total.
Looks a bit better than that Sears model?

You will likely be happier with what you have than what is being offered by Sears these days.

Nice save.

Still trying to get when this plane was made.....Knob has the through bolt....about 1956? or earlier? It is either Cocobolo, or that "Tropical Hardwood" . Grain is slightly wavy, full of red and black stripes.

Wasn't any marking onthe iron. Iron has a series of slots, that a pin on the adjuster engages. Most of the shiny metal was nickle plated, but the plating was bubbling off. Depth adjust knob is a steel one, later ones were plastic.

I had it taking a bevel cut on some Sycamore end grain a little bit ago......nice and smooth, won't need any sanding.

You took the name off of it?

Yep. IF you could have seen how rough and un-finished the sides were....you'd have ground them smooth, too.

Most of those planes were painted bright red. I've never seen a black one, unless it was a repaint. But yours wasn't.

I think mine was before the red paint-itis happened... Mine was from...1949-1956 I think.

Happen to happen a "Craftsman" #3 size smoother.....aka Millers Falls No.8. The only difference was in the lever caps. The Craftsman even had a "gold" coloured infill on it's lever cap. With "CRAFTSMAN" inside the golden oval.
