Got this in the mail the other day..
331039
12" long, 9ppi stamp. Might be a nice tool box saw
331040
Made two prototypes for a handle....second one might just do? Needed a bit of shaping, and sanding..
331041
Shaped to fit my hand. Made the saw kerf with a 9ppi backsaw. Added a coat of Witch's Brew for the finish...needed to drill two holes for these to go into..
331042
Ok, finish is dry, holes bored, bolts installed
331043
As for that first prototype handle? It was just a cut down nest of saws handle....
331044
Didn't want to just throw it out......
The "good" handle is White Oak

Why do I know you'll reject any design knowledge I offer you?:) Small saw or not,it will take the same force as a larger saw to push, since the teeth are as large as a full size saw.

I've seen more than one of this style saw, toolbox saw or "table saw" style, with a handle broken off exactly where this handle is the thinnest. It is beautiful but I would be worried.

Actually, I did not "reject" any design knowledge from you.....you weren't around my shop to show me the proper way. I just went with what I had in the wood, and what fitted my hands. Saw teeth are a bit small. Test drive didn't reveal any problems, saw cuts fast, but a bit rough as a crosscut saw.

Might just be a "Table Saw" type of saw. Right now, it is sitting in the Stanley Patterned Tool Box I made.

Plate has a bit too much set to the right side, have stoned it down a bit. Might file the teeth a bit, too.

Well,Steven, just see how it lasts and if necessary make another handle with a thicker neck. That's about all you can do. And post #3 did sound like a rejection.

Seems like a reasonable course of action.

Keep us posted Steven.

I need to make a saw vise, before I can file some teeth. It will cut straight, fast and rough right now. Maybe after a bit of file work, it might be better behaved....

I am still kicking myself for not buying the saw vise and saw set we found when we were out rust hunting...

I don't have a "rea" saw vise, but..
331270
I can make-do. Why is it that "jointers" are always so long?
331271
I do have a fancy, adjustable handle for files..
331272
I filed this little saw as a rip, as that seems to be the use I have for small saws
331273
Used the C clamp to pinch the top a bit. Tested
331274
First cut..
331275
Second cut, and a fancier cut..
331276
Then took the saw back up to the Tool Box I built. Might just do?

BTW: Handle has held up nicely, so far.

I happen to have a large pile of Walnut , Maple, and Oak scraps, mainly cut-offs. Thinking maybe some sort of a box and trays for a project. Might give this "new" saw a workout cutting things to size.

Trying to learn - Steven: How wide is the narrowest part of the neck of the oak handle you made? George: In your experience, what would a minimum width be for that type handle on that type saw?

Narrowest part of the neck: 3/4" x 5/4". Grain follows a straight line all the way through.

Thanks for the info.
