I've been trying to find out when Stanley started making tools in England. I have a couple of English made Stanley planes that work quite well, but just wanted some history about the English made items.
I cannot find any info on the net, but I might not be looking in the right place.

I remember coming across when they bought an old Sheffield firm, Stinson? in the late 1920? I was researching a Stormont chisel, so I didn't note. While they don't share our level of historical bent,as they have much more history and being poor cousins tend to use old tools, they should be of some help http://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/

They started in the UK in 1937 but I don't think they started manufacturing planes until around 1950. This is going by memory which isn't what it used to be.

I have an English made Bailey #4 that would be hard to get from my hands.
