so cheap now, when i bought mine they were $ 35. also bought a regular bulb for my house, one died after 2 years of heavy use called them up and had a replacement in a week so they do honor warranty they didn't even ask for any proof i owned anything just asked for address and model of bulb.

Is this for a single T8 style bulb, or a fixture with 2 bulbs?

its an LED fixture with 2 non-removable bulbs.

I bought 2 on Friday.

Two weeks before I had purchased one of the ones from Sam's club.

Comparing the two, the ones from Sam's are brighter, and whiter in color. I think 4500 lumens vs 3700 for the Costco lights. $10 more, though.

As Jay said, it's a fixture with 2 non removable bulbs. They are actually just LED strip lights in translucent plastic tubes that mimic bulbs. I have 5 in my shop and one in my garage and have had them for almost 2 years. I really like them. They put off a lot of light and are a fairly neutral color temperature.

Is the 4500/3700 the lumens (brightness) or degrees Kelvin (color temperature)? 4500 lumens is like search light intensity.

He means Kelvin. 3700 sounds about right. I'd have guessed a bit cooler, I'm sure it's far more obvious hanging next to a 4500 lumen light.

No, 4500 lumens.

Just a standard good T8 single bulb is 2900 lumens. The fixtures over my personal workbenches are 17,700 lumens.

Wow. I'd not have guessed it was that high. I'm sure they are stretching it for marketing but it still seems high. Regardless, they put off a more light than a florescent fixture of the same size I feel.

Thanks for the clarification.

I find the Costco fixture puts out slightly less light than the T8 fixture it replaced. Could be the warmer color has something to do with it.

Could be the perception due to the instant light, even in the cold, versus eyes adjusting as T8s warm up :) My observations are apples and oranges. Never had the two in the same shop.

I found listings on Amazon and eBay for the same fixture that states 4,200 Lumens, which is still significant. They also state that the color temp. is 5000K which is in the daylight range ~4800K-6500K. I use 5000K T8s in my shop. Looks like a good buy. If I need some, I'd definitely be tempted.

BTW, the eBay listing was at US $154.99 each.

I have sixteen 4 foot fixtures in my shop. About half are flourescent T-12s and about half are the Costco LEDs. At the new price I'll be replacing more of the flourescent. The LEDs do appear brighter than the T-12s and I love that they come on immediately, even in the cold, and most of all, they don't buzz.

Went to Costco for the usual stuff and as I was leaving I noticed one of my fellow old guys with two of the lights. I told him I bought 2 a few weeks ago and love them. He then said..."Did you see the stack with a $5.00 debate?" Packed the car and headed back and bought the last 4 that I need. Let there be light!

Wow...it figures the price would drop (again) right after I buy four more fixtures. LOL I'm really liking these in my shop!

The $25 is a monthly special sale price, not a price drop.

Has anyone seen fixtures like these that are designed for permanent flush installation instead of the extension cord and chain?

But having to wear sunglasses sort of negates the advantage...:p

And so far I don't remember anyone bring up the advantage to LEDs of not having to worry about the mercury (hazard/environment) needed to make fluorescents work.

That's the main reason I'm planning to install LED lights in my basement shop with low ceilings. I know for sure that at some point I'm going to accidentally hit a light with something... I'd rather not get showered with mercury, and I don't want to have to install cages over the lights... or use troffers or the plastic tube covers, which will accumulate dust.

New T-12 have far, far less than older tubes. T-8 and T-5 far less than T-12. You would need 20,000 tubes of the typical good T-8 to get 1 teaspoon of mercury.

Well, they showed up in the coupon book being $5 off. I bought some a few weeks ago at $24.99. I went in over the weekend and they raised the price $5 and are still $24.99 being $5 off, at least at the store here.

These look like a great option if you have enough outlets near the ceiling. I purchased 8 dual-bulb T8 fixtures from www.beeslighting.com. The fixtures are made for direct-wire LED tubes so they are only $10 per fixture and don't include a ballast. I used James LED T8 2250 lumen bulbs, so each fixture is 4500 lumen. I wired the fixtures into the existing lighting for the garage. I'm very happy with them so far. I think I paid about $30 / fixture and I can replace bulbs or add more easily.

I need two, but can't get there until Tuesday. Or more properly, I can't send my wife there until Tuesday.

Paul, these LED units we're talking about are pretty much just like typical fluorescent "shop lights". They have cords with plugs and are not designed to hook together in to a single powered unit. For me, that's fine because my shop was original wired with ceiling outlets for "shop lights". If you need/want ganged fixtures, you'll have to go upscale, but should be able to find what you want in the market at this point. But not at Costco... ;)

It's the standard monthly Costco sale, and I believe it started Jan 28, so it should be good for another two weeks. We don't need to have coupons at our local Costco.

In the new copy of the Costco magazine, there's an ad for the Feit replacement "tubes" that put LED in standard fluorescent fixtures for folks who want to just retrofit rather than replace. I may try a couple just for grins.
