Looking on the forums it seems that most posts regarding Photograv are fairly old. Is there a better software solution out there besides the gold method and ULS 1 touch?

That's the only 2 I've heard of, I have both and prefer ULS 1 Touch.

Cadlink has a photo-processing software for laser engravers.
Epilog can bundle it with machines when ordering.
