View Full Version : Rockler Down Under Alternatives?

I modified the Rockler Down Under router dust collector unit for a shop made router mortiser I made a few years ago, and it works pretty well. I'm about to make several more of the mortisers, but Rockler no longer makes the Down Under unit. Does anyone make some similar? I need a unit where the dust is sucked up along the router bit and evacuated through the router base opening, like the Down Under does. Nothing turned up with a cursory look on Google, so any help is appreciated. I'd rather buy something than fabricate, but will if there is no alternative. Thanks.

Prashun, I need something that pulls the dust through the center hole in the router's base where the bit protrudes through and then out through the side opening in the base. Surrounding the router isn't what I'm looking for.

Would this work? http://www.amazon.com/Router-Table-Dust-Collection-Accessory/dp/B0045I4CWU

I have one on my router table and it works well - but not sure if it would work without the table setup.

How about the Whirlwind Dust Port from Rockler: http://www.rockler.com/whirlwind-dust-port-for-routers

Or one of these if you're using a Bosch 1617: http://www.rockler.com/bosch-dust-port-hood-kit (http://www.rockler.com/bosch-dust-port-hood-kit)

Oops - that link is for the Colt, this one is for the Bosch 1617:

I saw that after I posted. The part that fits into the router base might be what I'm looking for. The other part that goes on the fence is of no use to me. I was hoping they or someone else sold just the first part, for less money, but so far haven't found anything. But that might work if I can't find anything else.

Thanks,

John

The Rockler one won't work. The Bosch one might if I were using a 1617, but I'm trying to make this a universal system, not tied to any particular router. Thanks. That's along the right lines.
