...or lack there of...

I am in the process of putting together a new shop....drywall, new eclectric...the entire package. My wife ask me what my first project was going to be in my new shop. I told her I was going to build the bed set(headboard, footboard, tables etc...) she had always wanted. She then says to me....I was hopeing we could just buy that from the store..... :( :(

slap...slap..across the face.... :D

Donnie,

Don't feel too bad, I'm sure she was just meaning it would be quicker to just buy them!

Donnie, I know exactly how you feel. My wife has been known to say much the same thing. :D

My wife did me that way several years ago on a dining table. We still have the dining table that she bought and I went to get in a booming rainstorm.

I fooled her though and built this bedroom suite that we have been using now for just over a year.

I cut this material down when I was a jr. in high school and kept the material all these years. I made her a promise before we got married that I would build her the bedroom suite. Woodsmith came out with this plan and I really liked it so I pulled out the materials and went to work.

You can do it, make her wait!!! I have confidence in you. Of course we have been married now for 28 years, sort of a little bit of time in coming.:D

A simple way to restore your confidence is to go with your wife to the furniture store. If you go to the budget furniture stores, when she finds a piece she likes, show her that the drawers are not dovetailed, the wood is poplar coated with a sprayed on finish that looks like something else. Don't forget to find the particle board and staples holding parts together.

If you go to the upscale furniture stores, when she looks at the $3,000 dresser, be sure to tell her that you could build one just as nice with $1,500 in materials.

My wife has done the same thing. She doesn't belive in me building everything, but so far I have! With each project, I gain more of her confidence....

The set of SUPER SECRET projects is going a long ways towards that.

Donnie, it's the same for everyone. No matter how far a man goes in life, the folks back home still think he's a fool (paraphrasing Mark 6:4).
