Does anyone know the formula for calculating the weight of wood? I have a 1.75 inch thick hard maple workbench top that is 30" x 72".

Here is a web page that provides the average weight of dried wood.

For maple it is 44 lbs per cubic foot, or 1728 cubic inches. Your bench is 3780, or 2.18 cubic feet. It should weight about 96 lbs without finish, unless I messed up my math.

I needed to know how much cedar I could haul in my pick-up so I did a search on line to find the weight of it per board foot. Got my answer and got my wood home from the sawmill. Internet works well.

Thanks Mark, that is what I got as well. I was surprised it wasn't heavier than that.
