Chip carved in Basswood, finials of Redheart and English Walnut.

So light weight, no hollowing needed. However, calculating, laying out the grid, and carving more than makes up for any time savings. :-)

Thanks! I just started learning chip carving a few months ago with the goal of carving on turnings. Good clean fun! (once I got the knife sharpened properly)
