I'm interested if anyone can ID the vise I just acquired via Craigslist. There aren't any real identifying marks on it, other than it says it was made in Taiwan. It's a teal/green color and has a quick-release lever on it. Jaws are approximately 9" wide and it opens to nearly 10". Seems solid, and doesn't wobble or have any real play in it. I'm excited to put it to use.

Anyone have thoughts on the brand/model? It sort of reminds me of the Grizzly color. And it has a similar lever to the Shop Fox G9851 vise on Grizzly's site. But I have no clue what it is.

It appears to be a Taiwanese knockoff of a Record 52-1/2 D vise. I'm not sure you'll have any luck with a "brand" per se. Knockoffs are often produced in a factory somewhere in China/Taiwan, and then sold to various companies, who then paint them in their colors and sell them under their brand name. A lot of times you'll see the same casting marks on competitors tools indicating that they came out of the same factory in Asia. I'd call it "Taiwan" brand! :-)

Thanks, Kieth. That makes a lot of sense. It's pretty much the same as any other no-name knockoff tool out there, I suppose. But it seems sturdy without any play. So, I'm happy with it, so far.

Any thoughts on how to mount it to a torsion box benchtop? I plan to add wood jaws to it, but I'd like them flush with the front of the bench, if possible. This concept seems to escape me, as I've never mounted a vise before.

Edit: One quick thought I had was to set the inner jaw inside of the bench's torsion box frame and use the frame as a jaw. Then simply mount a block to the movable jaw.
