My wife is requesting a sideboard, and I though I'd go for an Asian styled theme, perhaps using rice paper or frosted glass for the doors for a Shoji screen effect. I'm looking for design ideas. Anyone know of a good book or other source for images of Asian style furniture? Thank you!

I websearched "Krenov sideboard" and then "images," and lo and behold, dozens. Almost everything Krenov did was asian-inspired.

Here is a nice one that was in Fine Woodworking, don't know when.

Edit: found some detail and here it is.

Woodworker: Sam NorrisNorris blended the influence of James Krenov with his own sense of scale to create this sideboard. The Swiss pear, big-leaf maple, and Deodar cedar sideboard is 14 in. deep by 44 in. wide by 42 in. tall. The finish is shellac. Photo: Seth Janofsky From Fine Woodworking #205

More G&G than Asian but, G&G have roots in Asian styles. I love Gary Rogowski's take on it: http://www.finewoodworking.com/woodworking-plans/article/building-an-arts-and-crafts-style-sideboard-part-i.aspx

P.s. Just X out of the "Become a Member" splash if you get it.

George Nakashima also designed some pieces incorporating Shoji doors. Lots of Images come up from an image search of Nakashima Sideboard, for starters. His book is titled The Soul of a Tree, and his Daughter Mira Nakashima wrote a comprehensive book about his work, Nature Form & Spirit: The Life and Legacy of George Nakashima.

If you are thinking of something like Tansu, then consider Ty Heineken's book and take a look at Greg Merrit's site.

'Asian' is a huge category, so narrowing it down significantly will help in your research.
