Hi All,

Are Ibex planes tuneable, ie, is it worth the trouble?

I bought them long time ago cause they were cute, have never needed them till today.

Have the 1 1/8" and 1 3/4" ones, and need to use the smaller one.

Am flattening the soles (cap tensioned), and am disappointed to see that both have a minute hollow (1/32") right behind the mouth. If my camera wasn't MIA, you could see a picture.

The blades sharpened OK.

The problem esp with the 1 1/8" one is if I grind off more of the sole to get rid of the hollow, the mouth may really open up cause the metal is so thin.

What you all think?

As always, Thanks

I am not familiar with Ibex planes.

Google only shows small "violin" planes.

My first question is, aren't those planes made with shaped soles for the kind of work they do?

Second, could wood be adhered to the sole to add to the thickness and help with getting it flat?

You right, some have convex soles.......

Both mine are Woodcraft.

I'm positive the ones I have the sole meant to be flat, though.

Attaching wood is a great idea. The irons are certainly long enough.

The hollows behind the mouths eventually came out.

the smaller one actually worked better when I got done. Operator error, probably.

After sole truing, had to ease to corners cause the sides dug into wood-easiest part of the entire process.
