Need help designing a modular "fence"

I want to make a toy barn and modular "fencing" that could be arranged anyway the child wants.


I need a very simple but effective method of connecting sections of fence together.
Something that would easily hook and unhook somehow, any ideas?


I'm thinking of making a section of 3/4" square stock top bottom and sides with either smaller dowels (1/4") running left to right to fill in the main area. I was thinking of making the main 3/4" frame something like 4" high x 6" long.

Would a tinker toy type connector work, a dowel and a hole.
