Greetings everyone,
These are some end tables I made out of elm and walnut to complement a live edge coffee table I finished a few months ago. I used floating tenons to join the legs as well as the top. I was going to use a cross piece to join the legs at the bottom, but decided it would have looked too busy for my taste. These are my second bigger project to get a feel for joinery. Nothing too fancy, but I'm still learning. Critiques are most welcome!

Very nice!
Congrats on yr 2nd bigger project.
Can you describe your floating tenons a little more? Are they glued in both the bottom and top?

Congratulations on getting the elm to cooperate, at such wide pieces. I find elm to be rather wily to work with.
The tables look very nice and, along with the coffee table, should be a nice accent to the room.

Nice work !
(Never really thought about elm, however there is 5'+ diameter specimen in the back yard. Hmm...)

My suggestion : Leave it planted.

I like those a lot! Where did you get the elm?

Prashun,
That is correct. I used the plunge router and 3/4" upcut spiral bit to cut the mortises. Then fashioned a floating tenon out of scrap oak to hold it all together.

A gentlemen was downsizing his wood shop and had a plethora of tools and wood to move. He was about 2 hours from me (and about 15 minutes from my parents) so I really lucked out.

Thank you! The coffee table and end tables are my only experience with elm. Honestly I found it relatively easy to manage. Perhaps I just lucked out with the stock I picked up.
