Hello, creekers, it's been a long time since I've been on here, but I'm hoping someone here knows what I'm looking for. A long time ago, I saw a flat wooden box that had a swing up lid. The lid rotated all the way around to the back to support the rear end of the box on an angle to become a display box. I seem to remember it as a fairly simple hinge, but my Google skills are failing me. Please laugh at my very poor Paint rendering of what I remember:

Does anyone know how to make this?

So you need a hinge that opens 300 degrees or more. A pivot would do the job. Here's Lee Valley's super-duper version. http://www.leevalley.com/en/Hardware/page.aspx?p=72734&cat=3,41241 But you don't need to go that super-duper route if you don't want to. For a lower-tech version you can use a wood dowel for the pivot, driven through a hole in the box side. In this approach, you'd see the end of the pin, which is what Lee Valley is trying to avoid. But I don't see a big problem in that.

Another way to do it would be a knife hinge. For instance http://www.leevalley.com/en/Hardware/page.aspx?p=41267&cat=3,41241 Or http://www.rockler.com/reversible-knife-hinges

Not worried so much about the hardware, although both those suggestions are fantastic, but I would like to see if anyone knows what I'm talking about or has a plan that features this sort of thing. I don't know how it would go together to work properly. Starting to think that I hallucinated this box entirely!

I'm confused. Your post title asked for a hinge. But here you say you're not worried about the hardware. What help exactly do you want?

I was hoping that someone would know the kind of set up I'm talking about, but I guess I am not very clear. Thank you for your help.

Does that top picture show that the lid becomes a support so that the box is propped up at an angle for viewing?

Yes, the box I remember had a lid that rotated around and became a stand that held the back of the box up at an angle.

I know this is not exactly what you are asking for but it might give you some ideas.
