While I was making the hickory bowl I posted pics of my Son-in-law came by and gave me a scraper. He made one for himself and one for me from some steel scrap from his work site.

I have no idea what type of steel this thing is - but it is the hardest stuff I have ever come across. I holds an edge better than any high priced lathe tool I have ever bought. 22" Long

It ain't pretty --- but it sure works - and is on the "sturdy" side to say the least.

He grinded it as a square scraper with a small radius on one side which really works great. I think if I can find something that I can grind it with I will make a half-round scraper from it.

Must be some sort of chrome shafting.
Hey you ol dog you. I think you fibbed about the tornadoes not hitting your place. Looks like it hit your SHOP!!!!!!!!!
You need Terry over there for a few weeks, maybe a good washout. lol

Ken,

That looks like a nice tool. We will be down soon to visit my cousin and maybe the boys will clean that shop of yours if your gonna be around. I have some extra tool steel if you want I'll bring a couple of pieces with us.

Being the safety-minded person I am...I suggest you DO NOT drop this thing on your foot or any other appendage that happens to be under it!
