Ok, I am talking dovetails with Mike Gabbay. It of course came down to the old tails or pins first question. I cut the pins first, Mike cuts the tails first.

What do you do?

Through dovetails: pins first

half blind - tails first

Most of the time. If you can hand cut dovetails, which first doesn't matter too much. I do pins first on throughs because it is easier to mark out the tails with the large tail sockets between the pins. half blinds are done tails first because it is really hard to mark out the tails from the half-blind pins.

I'm with Tim S in that I do the pins first on through dovetails, but tails first on half-blinds--and for the same reasons.

Tails first, as taught by Kelly Mehler, and CH Becksvoort does it that way, too.

How about this.... half tails or half pins on the ends? I like the half pin myself.

Hmm...pins or tails first. I always have to think about which is which!! ;) :D

Tails!

Used to think it mattered but since watching a "Pins first" type doing it realized that it really doesn't. It's all down to straight sawing and clean shoulders!:D

So Philip, are you saying I should shower before going into the shop? I usually do that afterwards. :)
