brads in an outdoor project?

We get lotsa snow & rain here in Toronto....

The idea is to "let the brads do their thing while the glue sets".

Will they rust?
Will it matter?
Are there 18ga SS brads?
Should I fill the holes - I'll paint the project.

Thank you.

I live in sunny California, so my experience with Canadian winters is nil.

However, my opinion is that ordinary steel brads will not last long in outdoor projects. I see conventional ungalvanized nails exposed to water, and they rust quite quickly. In many woods (for instance oak) they make really ugly stains as the deteriorate.

Stainless 18 ga brads exist. Check out http://www.stainless-nails-brads-staples.com/, for instance. Be prepared for sticker shock.

They will rust. Fill the hole.

You can say that again! I recently bought 400 nails for my 15 Ga PC for outdoor use and paid about $40 from McFeelys! This site wants $130 for 4,000! That's about 70% less! Thanks.
