I got a good deal on an old Powermatic Model 50 Jointer yesterday. Happy birthday, me!

Anyway, it's missing the porkchop guard. Looks like no big deal to make one or two, but I need some help. Can someone with a similar 6" Powermatic measure their porkchop guard so I can replicate it? I have access to a machine shop, but was just thinking plywood would be sufficient.

Also, I'm interested in a euro style guard, but have never even seen one outside of a video. Has anyone ever made one? Pitfalls? Things to look out for?

Thanks for the help.

I can get measurements tomorrow if someone else dose not beat me to it. I am in the middle of restoring the one a friend gave me.

If you can snap a pic from above and give me a reference dimension, I can scale it from there.

Super helpful, thanks!

Nick

I was going to PM these but I could not figure out how. If you need more I'm happy to help.325468325469325470 The guard is tangent with the inside of the square but the shape and the angle I took the photos makes it look like it is not. The dimensions are correct. Except I just noticed the pivot pin should be .620" to fit into the .630" hole in the guard. I have them both as .630" Sorry.

I did a search on ebay for "6" jointer guard", and several possibilities came up.

Thanks a ton, Walter!

I really appreciate it. Seems like a 5/8" pin would work, eh?

I think so. Drop it in the hole in the in feed table and see if it fits. Show us when you get it made.
