Greetings from Ireland
I am looking for a little advise on a problem I'm having.
I'm engraving a picture onto wood but I keep getting dark bands running left to right.

What am I doing wrong ?
am using a Rayjet

I have seen similar problems caused by changing the photo size. You might find more info with a search around photo editing here.

Try a black rectangle made in a paint program or Corel Draw to eliminate Bearings the the likes. I think it will come down to your photo editing.

Others will chime in shortly.

Theres all kinds of reason this can happen a picture would help us see whats going on. It could be just the type of wood your using. Some wood the grain will lighten and darken depending on the hardness, and theres and theres editing problems and also mechanical problems that cause banding.

Try restarting your computer and engraver. I had the same banding issue that was resolved with a restart.

Quick check for one of the easy fixes is to make sure the resolution of the picture being sent is the same as the resolution set on the laser. After that its like Bert K said....

Trotec Rayjet I got the 30w but I'm sure the tube says 40w

I ran this job at 100% speed and 15% power

Hi Warren,

Please advise the dpi and differing algorithm used

Did you modify the image at all for engraving?

Can we possibly have a look at the original image and the image you used for engraving to see if this is software related

Horizontal banding is almost always a mismatched resolution issue.

this is the pic I was using. I increased the resolution to 500 , did a unsharp mask and then converted to black and white and selected stucki

You increased it to 500 what? If you're changing the dpi in the image viewer, that's a meaningless term without a size specified, as well. If you want the final image to engrave at 3"x5" at 500dpi, resize the image to 1500x2500 pixels and send that to the machine. Engrave at 500dpi. If you changed the machine's dpi setting, or if the enlarged image is not the exact size as the engraved image (or some multiple thereof), you will get banding.
