I found a guy selling some cabinet doors he purchased from a local furniture factory that has closed. He's willing to sell me these for $275. It's a heck of a lot of doors. What do you guys think? I have to tell him something today. I don't have any current use for these, though I do plan to build cabinets.

I have 120 unfinished Oak and Cherry Doors. These are solid and well made.
The Oak two panel are 16 X 16 3/4 (23)
the Oak Mission Style are 16 3/ x 24 1/8 (5) and 16 7/8 by 19 7/8 (19)
The Cherry Raised Panel are 18 1/4 16 3/4 (25), 17 x 19 with rabbets (7) 16 x 26 1/2 (30), and Cherry flat panel 16 x 16 3/4 (11).

If you have a use for them, it is a very good deal. When we outsource doors, we pay $50-$100 per door, depending---for doors made to our spec.s

If they will sit around taking up space and collecting dust for several years (as they would be likely to do in my shop), then they aren't worth much.

I just think that buying or building doors before the cabinet boxes are made is putting the cart in front of the horse.

The size of the doors don't seem to me to be too far out of standard sizes. Like Jerry said, I priced these doors somewhere between $50 and $100 a piece, so that's more than $5000 in doors for $275. The only cabinets these would be used for, is my personal use as I'm a hobbyist.

Thanks Jerry, that is what I thought they may cost a piece based on my local hardwood reseller. If I can use 10 of the doors, I figure I'm already ahead. Having 120 of them is superfluous.

Those are pretty oddball sizes….I would figure out what you would do with them before buying. True using only 10 of the doors could make it worthwhile….unless you need other sizes as well? Then your trying to match new to what you have. Maybe for some real fancy shop cabinet doors?

good luck,

Jeff, being a hobbyist, I only build for myself basically. Occasionally family, so I have some "artistic" freedom with my boxes.

It's only a good deal if those are doors you can use.

Raised panel doors are around $35 dollars each unfinished for oak...

I'm charging $55 for a raised panel door in a base specie like oak if it is going on one of my cabinets, that includes hinges. If it's for another shop, it does not.

This is for the Kansas City area... Hinges are separate...

Here's a place you might want to contact to see if they are interested in buying them

http://www.building9.biz/contact-us

Building 9 is a local (NE Ohio) supplier to builders, remodelers, rehabbers, etc.
They sell cabinet doors - both new and old used ones in all different sizes.
They must have 10000 or more in stock.

You can use what you want & see if Building 9 will buy what you don't use.

Thanks Rich. I purchased the doors, most are cherry, some are maple and a smaller number were oak mission style with decorative dowels in them. All of them were very very good quality. I was told they came from a factory that opened a few years ago. I remember the factory being in the news about bringing back jobs to the High Point area (we used to make most of the furniture in the US). Unfortunately, they didn't make it but the doors are first class quality. I'm guessing the doors weigh more than 1000 lbs. all together.
