View Full Version : Fix a slipping Bessey clamp?

One of my little Bessey Uniklamps (their light-duty bar clamps) is starting to slip before I can tighten it to adequate pressure. I don't see any way to adjust it. Best I can figure, the short metal arm must have worn threads.

Does anyone know of a fix, or if such parts are available anywhere?

It isn't super expensive, but I hate to toss it.

THX.

I know the regular bessy's have an allen screw that you can slightly turn when they start to slip.

You can re-establish the threads with a saw file, like these: https://www.toolsforworkingwood.com/store/item/EE-555-SF.XX/Saw_Files Probably wouldn't take more than 20 minutes.

Interesting idea. I have such files already.

Are you suggesting that I cut all the grooves deeper, then files-back the flat outer edge a little?

Woah, Nelly!

That looks great, but I have no drill press. Pretty cool, though.

Yeah, pretty radical solution, I've never had to open up my Unis so not sure what gives internally. I do know the grub screws exist in the bigger ones.

Allan, I think I misread your question. If you're looking to reestablish the threads on the screw, then ignore my suggestion. It's the indents in the bar I was thinking of.

No, I didn't mean the screw. - I thought there were matching threads on that crossbar. Now that I've actually looked at it, I se your point. That's a bit of work but maybe the answer. I dunno, though, as when this clamp "slips" I don't se the crossbar slipping on the threads. I don't exactly know WHAT is happening.

The indents seems as deep as on a K-Body, just without any indents on the sides as well. Also, sadly, no adjustment allen screw.
