I was wondering how dark maple engraves generally?

Does a really nice job. What I didn't like when I performed it was the effect it does when you raster away larger portions of it. I find it just looks grey and weird. But for doing fine lines it looks super cool.

Has a coat of poly on it with a slight amber tint (I find it very slight)

Maple doesn't get super dark but as a wood worker I cannot help but love it. It engraves evenly and is lovely once engraved. Has a ever so slightly redish mostly brown tint once engraved. If you want it darker you can take it out of focus and/or use sprays or airbrush the engraved area to make it darker.

Raphael is that photo maple ply or solid maple?

If you want it to come out dark you simply set the laser out of focus by a few millimeters.

Solid, but was a crappy 100/100 job I did. Would have been a lot better if it wasn't as deep/fast.

I have customer who wants some work done on maple and as I don't do woo that often I could not remember how it engraved.

If the maple is finished well and sealed. Stain, or even a bit of brown liquid shoe polish put on and wiped off, will darken it. It soaks into the lasered wood, but not the finished surface.
