Does anyone use, with success, an older style arbor- motor set up with cbn wheels? Is there any reason not to set up this way? thanks al

What do you mean by older style arbor motor set up? Single shaft? Extended shaft? I think all the CBN wheels have bushings, so they can be fit onto just about any motor. You do want a fairly heavy duty motor. The 1/2 hp Rikon seems to work, but I would consider that to be kind of minimal. These wheels are heavier than standard wheels.

Was thinking of belt driven type arbor (vintage), not direct drive .

No reason I can think of that this set wouldn't work. If you have a motor that runs at around 3400 RPM you could usea pulley set up that slowed the wheels down to around 1800 RPM which is considered a better speed.

I agree that it should work. Main thought is are the pillow blocks sturdy enough to handle the load. Single wheel would be less weight. The wheels are spin and bubble balanced, so unless the shaft is bent, they would run true and vibration free.
