Nothing too complicated, but it did give me the chance to flex some neander-muscle. The top, inparticular, was tamed with the no. 8 followed by the LV scrpaer as well as some hand scraper work. The wedged through-tenons gave me the excuse to get my chisels into shape.

The finish is General Finishes SealACell Clear followed by several coats of ArmrSeal Topcoat.

The bench will sit by the front door and is intended to compliment the rest of the maple peices I've outfitted the front room with over the past year. (these can be seen on my hobby web page if interested)

As always, thanks for the inspiration and encouragement.

I am impressed for I know just how hard it is to get curly maple flat and without tear-out. Very nice job! David

Nice work, including the joinery. What wood did you use for the wedges.

Jim,

Very, very nice work...

I think I have plans for this bench somewhere, can you tell me the source?

I need to try through tenons someday.

It is truly pretty. Is that curly maple or tiger maple or are they the same?

Elegant simplicity. Lovely lines, interesting joinery, and the figure of the maple is nothing less than spectacular.

The plans can be found on the Popular Woodworking site in their free plans archive.

The wood is fiddleback (soft) maple. ...where as the terms "curly" and "tiger" are usually reserved for use with hard maple of similar figure. Atleast that's been my experience. The wedges are black walnut.

Thanks again,

Jim W

I like the design , joinery and beautiful grain.
Joinery works successfully as design.
