I have been looking at the cameras for hollowing for awhile. I have an endoscope camera but would like to be able to go from camera to a computer monitor without using a computer in the barn/shop without climate control or much in the way of dust control.

I see I can buy a magic box for around twenty dollars that will convert the signal from what goes into a TV to what goes into a monitor so that problem seems easily solvable. I have a nice flat screen monitor that has been gathering dust a year or two so I'm looking for a fairly high definition camera, one thing I don't like about the endoscope is the low resolution. I am also looking for manual focus. After that I don't really know what I am looking for. Fairly lightweight and under a hundred dollars since this camera will not be pampered.

Can anybody point me in the right direction? A reminder what the converter box is actually called would be nice too.

Thanks for any assistance!

Hu, This is what i purchased http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JP4SZ7M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00 The picture is pretty good. You will need a power supply for it. The converter box i purchased is http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M4JY722?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00 It is no longer available but there are others (included for description). Make sure it converts the composite video (tv) into pc video (*vga) and not the other way around.

You can also look at Alan Zenreich's video on You Tube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pidLwThKHSw&feature=youtu.be

Hu

what I used is this camera from Amazon and it has worked well so far. has a nice lens that you can zoom and focus somewhat.

I think I have the same camera Sparky has for mounting overhead. Trying to get a working setup for the club. I have the same box Larry posted. I needed input to a VGA-only flatscreen that I had in storage. The camera I bought for mounting on the arm has a smaller adjustable lens and body. Waiting on a laser mount (Brown's Best) to modify and try the camera, but it tests out well and the focus adjustment will allow for various sized turnings.

Thanks everyone!

I have looked over Alan's video's. He is making changes or upgrades himself, I forget exactly what he said, I think there is an updated version of some of the software he was using or something so he is in flux himself. That is why he hasn't put together more video's as he indicated he would be doing.

I don't know if I will get that far but Alan did something really slick, instead of just drawing an outline he did picture within a picture to show an actual picture of the cutter superimposed over the vessel while the cutter was inside. The Fosmon unit is the only one that seems to offer picture within a picture as a part of it's features, seems like it might be handy. I realize Alan used separate software for this but I contacted Fosmon to ask what the deal is and if they are discontinuing the unit, upgrading it, or just can't keep up with demand. I'll report back if I hear from them. If I don't here anything by close of business Friday I will move to this unit which is rated higher than the other two units offered and about the same as the Fosmon converter:

http://www.amazon.com/Portta-PETCSVSP-Converter-1920X1200-Resolution/dp/B001VLO5BC/ref=pd_sim_23_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=0C2GJG9NZ4EKFNHJQ7JE&dpID=31Zc9H9yWiL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR160%2C160_

Any reason not to use this unit? Is a little pricier than the other two units that Amazon offers but ten dollars isn't going to break the bank if it is a better unit. Not sure it is, just looking at ratings.

I just remembered I have a TV that has been gathering dust for the last three or four years too. Would a flat screen 32" TV be overkill for this project? :D

Hu, That unit looks like it will work fine. Here is another possibility http://www.amazon.com/Composite-S-Video-Converter-Screen-Version/dp/B003NUN7DG/ref=pd_sim_23_1 In Alan's video, he uses a sheet of plastic and sharpies to draw the outline of the cutter. Dry erase markers with finer tips work well without the plastic sheet.
