I need a rabbeting bit and thought probably the best bang for my buck would be one that has different bearings for different sizes. At this time I am building a medicine cabinet and need to cut a rabbet to set in a mirror or glass in the door. I don't know much about router bits. I believe my router (Skil 1830) can take 1/2" bits. This is one set I found with free shipping: http://www.hartvilletool.com/product/3368/rabbeting-bits
Rockler has a set as I am sure others also. What do you recommend?

I bought the MLCS set shown at the bottom of this page (http://www.mlcswoodworking.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/smarthtml/pages/bit_rabbet.html). Works okay for me. A bit less than $30.

[Here's a few pictures of mine. I appreciate the box because it keeps everything together.]

I have this (http://www.woodcraft.com/Product/817523/RABBETING-SET-18-12-12-S.aspx?gclid=CKv51Z6qv8gCFQMJaQodoiwP-g) one. You can't go wrong with Whiteside, though. I would prefer more depth options (bearings), but if you do little rabbeting you probably won't care.

My Whiteside set is my go-to for routed rabbets. I have added additional bearings for an even greater degree of versatility. Whiteside bits really hold their edge making them more cost effective. They also seem to win the bake-offs more than others.

Michael, for bits that won't see much use any brand will work well out of the box. Since this type of bit set will see a lot of use over the years going with Whiteside is a good choice; that is what I went with. Your bits need to be in some type of holders to protect them from damage that can occur if they should hit each other. There are many plans for bit holders and here are two simple choices I used.

I went with the set from Whiteside: LINK (http://www.carbideprocessors.com/multi-rabbet-set-w-8-bearing-sizes-1-2-shank-whiteside-1955/)

The Amana set I got does every 1/8" I think from the 2" diameter cutter down to the 1/2" bearing if I remember?? I think it's called the Superrabbet?

I got the CMT set and it has been a fine addition. Not the type of bit used often, but when you need it, it works well.
