I have a delta ras-12, i have a 3 phase static converter, i would like to use it to get it running for free, but the magnetic switch type system does not seem to work, I got.it to start a few times using the magnetic switch starter system (not sure what it's called) but it doesn't seem to work right... if I wire converter to motor, it runs fine but takes forever to coast down, like 30-60 seconds. I would like to just have it setup with converter for little cost, but I want it to slow down much faster then that.

My other option Is to get a vfd, and that what cover converter and braking all in one, but cost is 160 or so for a teco fm50 is that the best way to go or is there anyway to get setup 1 running for very little money?

Have you got a link for your FM 50 3 hp for $160. VFD is your cheapest bet and I would consider anything under $200 is peanuts. Not a good idea to run static converters for proprietary motors besides they don't develop full horsepower and burn them up on machines that start and stop a lot. for a 12 inch saw you want all that 3 hp

I have the 2 HP version.

That's the best deal I could find
http://www.factorymation.com/Products/FM50_230V/
Is the next best deal

Ok, that is what I needed to know, my hope is to install the vfd somewhere out of sight, and run the start stop from the button on the front of the RAS.

If you buy from Factorymation, the woman tech there is FANTASTIC. She knows her stuff, and will take a lot of time explaining clearly how to wire it up, including remote switches, extra braking resistors if desired, etc.
