Flocking Gun

Does anyone use this tool? Is it as easy as it seems to be? We tend to offer felt lined drawers and dealing with full sheets and lining a drawer is always cumbersome.

I have used a very simple one to flock the inside of presentation boxes. It is certainly easy to use and produces attractive results. Prior to this I used sheet goods (felt and cork) and the flocking more easily produces a perfect "fit."

I used to make a lot of band sawn boxes and used a flocking gun with mixed results. The surface quality under the flocking is a big factor, as is the size of the drawer. For really small drawers the flocking is ok, but for really small drawers you don't really need the gun - you can apply the base coat and sprinkle in the flocking. (Latex paint works as good as the base coat sold for flocking.) For larger drawers that are actually used I switched back to fabric , cork or leather. For the irregular band sawn drawers I traced the shape of the bottom onto paper before drawer assembly and it goes pretty quickly and is much better looking and more durable than the flocking.

For small items you can just put it in a zip lock bag and shake:

- paint the section to be flocked the same colour as the flocking which you will use
- spray the area w/ a good quality adhesive glue
- place in a bag, add the flocking and shake
