I know someone who rents two small apartments above a garage. Each apartment is about 450 square feet. Right now the only heat comes from electric baseboard heaters. The tenants indicate it's very cold in the winter. There is no duct system in the garage part so likely no furnace was ever down there. How would you heat each unit? Thanks.

Mini split heat pump. In your climate they would work well.

I like the idea of the split pump. Unfortunately, the owner tells me there is nowhere to install one. The building takes the entire lot. Not a square inch of grass and the sidewalk on the right goes until the far back of the lot where the entrance door is located.

Mini split units could be mounted to the wall above the side walk with no problem. See that alot in the urban areas around here. Brackets made with angle iron and a shelf attached to sit the unit on, painted and attached to the wall.

Got out and about today and was able to take these picks to show you how mini splits can be wall mounted. Hope these pics can help show what can be done.
