I am inlaying some Maple letters into some walnut on a piece I am making for my wife, and another for a friend of ours. The letters are approximately 1-5/8" tall and vary in width, depending on the letter. The thickness is approx. 5/32", and the narrowest parts of the letters is 1/8". Would I be wrong in wanting to use a 1/16" carbide straight bit or 1/8" straight bit?

I have always used 1/8" for my (limited) inlay works. I am thinking 1/16" is too fragile.

I agree, I always insure I have several 1/8" bits on hand when I use my router inlay collars because I usually break at least one. I would probably break a lot more if they were 1/16".
