Hi Guys,

I've just finished a walnut stool in standard oil-based polyurethane, but want to apply paste wax for a nice feeling. I could only find clear paste wax locally. Is it necessary that I color it or will the wax not build up in the pores because of the poly?

Thanks,
Scott

Sorry, my question is a bit unclear. I've heard that clear wax on walnut gets into the pores and becomes impossible to buff out, so some use a brown colored wax. Would the poly stop this from happening, therefore not necessitating a coloring agent?

That can happen regardless of what finish you used, but only if the finish didn't fill the pores. If you have a glass smooth finish you can use any wax you want. If you can see the pores then it might be best to use a colored wax. They are available commercially.
