I posted this on the crosscut sawyer forum a little more than a month ago. Lots of looks, but no replies.

Anyone have any info, leads, guesses, etc. on this saw plate?

It's 36 in. long. The blue tape is centered under what's left of the etch.

Best pic I could get of the etch.

This is what I can make out of the etch:

SAW WO KS
PHILADEL IA
ARRAN

I am guessing:

"something" SAW WORKS
PHILADELPHIA
"something" WARRANTED

Some of the "something" preceding SAW WORKS is there, but not enough for me to recognize. It's not Disston & Sons. I tried to search for: philadelphia "saw works" excluding disston and didn't really find anything.

Thanks for looking. :)

When I looked at the page I found three with Philadelphia. But none with "saw works". Thanks for the link, I have it saved.

It is a second line Disston saw, it's Disston's "Keystone Saw Works" branding.

Thank you for the reply. I checked into this. "Keystone Saw Works" was on some etchings, but as far as I could find out these were not second line. Here is an example:

"KEYSTONE" I believe was the second line brand:

From the 1918 Disston catalog your saw is a #198 Keystone Plain tooth, one man crosscut saw. The 5 foot long version sold for $3.50. I use for reference " The Handsaw Catalog Collection" book by Astragal press, copyright 1994.

Appreciate your input.

I did some more looking and can add to my second post. Apparently Disston in the late 1800's introduced the "Keystone Saw Mfg. Co." brand which did not include the Disston name.

"The Keystone Line of saws was in the Disston catalog for decades and was meant to attract what could be called "low-end" buyers. . . ."
http://www.disstonianinstitute.com/keyintro.html

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a Keystone 198 online (I'm too cheap to buy the book). I did find a Keystone Saw Mfg. Co. champion tooth crosscut with this etch:
