After shooting a Canon 20D for 10+ years, I finally upgraded. My brand new Canon 6D arrived yesterday and we're getting to know one another. A quick and dirty test shot:

Enjoy your new purchase! I waited a long time before I upgraded to the Canon 60D a few years ago and I absolutely love it because of it's articulated rear screen. The 6D is based off the 60D so I have no doubt you will enjoy your new camera for years to come! I have a Canon EF 28-135 mm IS lens for mine, but mainly use my Sigma 50-500 OS HSM since it's so versatile.

The camera is important, but you got a wonderful eye. That's more important.

I'm just glad you don't have the low voc waterlox! That stuff is nothing like the original formula.

Great photo! Looks like something out of a magazine.

BTW you can resell photos like this on big stock and other sites. Probably not a ton of money but a maybe a few bucks here and there to support your hobbies :)

Have fun with the new toy!

Good grief my eyes must be getting bad or I've been at work too long but I thought this said:

A photographic goat.

LOL!

The sensor must be good to capture such a small amount of noise at ISO 1600.

Looks like a great camera but the price is way out of my budget. I'm sure though it's worth it if photography is your thing. I'd like to get back into it again someday.

Nice composition. Out of my budget though. I will stick to my T2i with a Tamaron 18-280 superzoom. And yesterday I got to use my D10 while snorkeling. No great shots though.

Yep, the technology has certainly come a long way since I bought 20D. The top of the 6D's normal ISO range is 25,600 versus 1600 on the 20D. There are also extended modes of ISO 51,200 and 102,400 versus 3200 on the 20D. A lot of the noise reduction is in the processor but all things being equal, due to the physical size and spacing of the individual detectors, the full frame sensor is less susceptible to noise than the smaller APS-H and APS-C sensors.

It stung a bit to be sure but it was on sale at $300 off, which brought the purchase price down to less than the 20D back in the day. I also received a performance award at work that took another bite out of it.

While the true artistry remains with the eye and brain behind the camera, you'll really enjoy having a more current camera body. There have been significant gains in capability over the years that let you do some things that would have been less than satisfying not so long ago. One example of that is much better low-light quality. Enjoy!
