i have a norm style router table, and thought i had the dust under control but i have found out that i dont. so am looking for some of your solutions to fix my dilema. i have a designated DCollector with a 3' drop for the table. the space is 12" wide by 20" deep and 18" high. have a hose connected at the bit opening on the fence,as well as one trying to catch it at the underside of the table near the router. any help or pictures of your solutions would be appreciated. thank's larry

Larry, you say you don't have it under control. Where exactly do you have the most escaping? Also, what size collection point do you have at the bit? My fence is home-made and, in doing so, I also figured in a 4" DC port at the bit. Very, very little escapes near the bit! Also, what size port do you have on the base of the cabinet? Again, I went with 4" and installed a "ramp" to try and get the chips going toward the DC port. I still end up with a fair amount of chips in there, but it was kind of a "knock-together" cabinet and doing OK until I build a "real" one.:)

[QUOTE=John Miliunas]Larry, you say you don't have it under control. Where exactly do you have the most escaping? //under the table, it fills up fast on raised panels
what size collection point do you have at the bit?//3"
what size port do you have on the base of the cabinet? 3" Again i also used a shopvac attachment to try and channel it more towards what was being taken off the wood its right below the table and on the right side. thought it would work fine but it misses more than it gets.

I have a 4" port to the table and rather than using a hose to the table top when using the fence, I have a hole in the table that is covered by a hood on the back of the fence. (Similar to an Incra installation (http://home.pacbell.net/jdismuk/routertable.html) that I saw long ago done by a fellow named Dizzy out on the left-coast, although mine is a traditional split-face fence) There is also a slot in the bottom of the access door/window to allow a small amount of air to sweep the bottom of the router compartment back to the port. Openings, including the slot, bit hole and fence air flow hole are calculated to be just about the same area as the 4" port on the back of the cabinet. Dust collection is great.

Larry,

Have a look at this thread .... it may give you an idea how I addressed the dust collection on my "Norm's" router table.

Four inch hose on cabinet. Four inch hose on fence. And it will still spit chips around.

I use the Woodpeckers downdraft box. I needed a new router table fast after the tornado, so I ordered the entire router table package. I already had their fence. It does a magnificent job!

Larry,

See the link below for some other considerations:

I can't say enough positive things about through-the-table dust collection for both the table and the fence in my experience. It works great.

Well I was going to post my response to this thread awhile ago, but to tell the truth, I hadn't really given my setup a good trial until today. I can now say that It works great. If fact it works so well, it even sucks the workpiece to the table.

In order to get up an running in my new shop as quickly as possible, I bought a cheap table and fence set up from Peachtree at the last WW show. I also bought the Woodpecker downdraft box. I needed dust control and this was the easiest way to get it in a hurry. I also figured that if I ever decided to put the router in the TS extension table the box would work well for that application too.

I wanted dust control at the fence too, so I modified an off the shelf HVAC box to make a plenum. 5" hose to the plenum, 2.5" to the fence, and 4" to the downdraft box.

Some good looking tables there guys!

I have a 6" hose on the bottom and a 3" hose on the fence, it works VERY well.

One thing to be wary of is air flow, at first I did not have enough, so I drilled some holes in the front of the door to the below the table space....

This greatly improved the dust collection on my table.

More pics and stuff here.... (http://www.ablett.jp/workshop/router_table.htm)

Cheers!
