I call this turning "Ocean Floor," because it reminds me of the sand floor of an ocean beach. The turning is 7 3/4" W x 10 1/2" H. The main piece is a hollow form that was turned from a piece of Fiddleback Maple (or sometimes called Tiger Maple for you guys from down south) I dyed it with Chestnut Spirit Stain. First black then sanded back, then a coat of blue and finally royal blue. It has about 8 coats of poly. The pedestal and finial are cherry that I dyed black.

Beautiful. I'm not usually a fan of hollow forms on long pedestals, but there's something about yours that I like. The proportions look perfect to me, the base is a bit thicker than the finial which looks good, length of base and finial looks good. Love the maple and the color. Well done.
