Had a customer bring this thing in and he didn't know what it was. He had it powder coated to make a piece of art out of it. Anyone know what it might be? It's steel or cast iron and very heavy, about 16" in diameter.

Kind of reminds me of a mowers flywheel. Bigger engine maybe? I dunno.

Looks a little bit like a refining or grinding plate.

Road salt slinger plate would be my WA guess.

It doesn't seem to have any wear on it. You can see the machining marks through the powder coat and everything seems to be like new, so I'm guessing this isn't an item that has anything running across it. The hole in the middle doesn't have a keyway or set screw, so I'm guessing that whatever goes there isn't driving any rotation. It probably weighs 30 lbs.

I wonder if there's a mate to it. The counterbored holes look like they are for a bolt head or nut. How wide are the slots?

1" slots, the holes are for a 1/2" bolt, with the counterbore being large enough for that. I think the through holes are about 9/16" or maybe a little less.

It looks like a plate for a heavy duty umbrella or umbrella type structure to hold the ribs of the umbrella.
