The Red River Valley is a region in central North America (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America) that is drained by the Red River of the North (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_River_of_the_North). It is significant in the geography (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geography) of North Dakota (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Dakota), Minnesota (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota), andManitoba (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manitoba) for its relatively fertile lands and the population centers of Fargo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fargo,_North_Dakota), Moorhead (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moorhead,_Minnesota), Grand Forks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Forks,_North_Dakota), and Winnipeg (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winnipeg,_Manitoba). Paleogeographic (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paleogeography) Lake Agassiz (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lake_Agassiz) laid down the Red River Valley silts.

Having lived in Natchitoches (pronounced nak-a-tosh) in a home on Cane River lake, I am well aware of this story. Quite interesting.
If you're anywhere near the area, the Christmas festival at Natchitoches is quite an event.
