I found two Shop Fox mobile bases at a garage sale last weekend for $5 each. Unfortunately, they are a little too small for the table saw I want to put on one of them. I would rather not spend a lot of money on name brand extensions, so does anyone know if there are standard metal peices that can be used instead?

Here's what they look like.

Thanks

Yes it is standard metal but I expect you could use wood cut to fit snug and screws in place of the bolts. Might have it in the scrap box to boot and then it is free!

Great find by the way.

Wow...what a deal!! You can use standard metal...I don't advise wood as in the Rockler version...it works ok, but not as good as steel.

Hi Pete,
Nice score on the bases. I have Delta bases for most of my machines and when I upgraded from a 6" to 8" jointer I cut the 1" x2"(2.5"??) rectangular steel tube and milled some hard maple to fit snuggly inside. I pounded the wood in as far as possible, drilled some holes in the steel, and secured the wood with screws. The PM jointer weighs ~ 300 and the modified base works just great. Good luck, John.
