Found this old picture of the English Setter my Dad had on the farm. Lived for 17 years , From 1941 to 1958. Looking to get an English Setter like the one in the Picture. Trouble is, the picture is in Black & White . Can't tell if it's an Orange or Blue Belton ? Also, it's been almost 75 years since that Dog was born, do they even breed that large , blocky style English Setters anymore ??

That was when they still had enough width of skull to have a brain. You may be able to find one like that if you can find a breeder still breeding the old style. There are still plenty of breeders breeding good dogs for field trials. Show breeders have about bred the brains out of them breeding towards the narrow skull, but maybe not as bad as some of the other Setters. My Dad bred them for hunting dogs in the '50's when I was a little boy. He trained them not only to point birds, but to scatter Turkeys. We had Turkeys living in the yard, and the puppies grew up chasing them. If a flock of turkeys was spotted by local people, he'd go turn the dogs loose late in the evening, and go call the birds up early in the morning. My Mother says I was raised on wild turkey.
